Area code 349 is still unassigned as of May 2015. Calls from this area code are most likely coming from a telemarketer or a fraudster who is “spoofing” its real phone number.
The method of hiding the actual incoming phone number from caller ID systems is known as spoofing. Caller ID spoofing is prohibited by the FCC, and violators can face fines of up to $10,000. Under certain circumstances, however, it is legal for law enforcement agencies and courts to modify caller ID numbers. When calling, telemarketers must display their own phone number or the phone number of the seller they are representing.
