What Is IMGSRC and What Does It Do?

IMGSRC is a Russian-based free photo-sharing service. Users can publish photographs of any topic on the site, and some individuals have used it to propagate child pornography. Several users of the website have been arrested and charged with crimes. The majority of the site is lawful. As of 2014, IMGSRC had 637,000 users who had uploaded 38 million pictures.

Many photographs on iMGSRC are lawfully posted, but hundreds more are protected by an encrypted password that members must enter in order to view them. While the National Crime Agency in the United Kingdom monitors images uploaded to the website, it can only arrest people who post illegal material.

Alex Gonzalez, a New Jersey man, was arrested and accused in spring 2014 with publishing sexually explicit photos of a 15-year-old high school student on iMGSRC. For his crime, the man was sentenced to ten years in prison. Paul Manganelli Jr., a Massachusetts police officer, was charged in 2013 with receiving and sending child pornography photographs and videos on iMGSRC. The cop claimed he was researching and identifying internet child pornographers on the website. In 2014, he received a five-year federal prison sentence.
