A bodybuilder who focuses on building mass to his body between competition seasons is known as an off-season bodybuilder. The bodybuilding competition season lasts from April to October, therefore November through March is the off-season.

Off-season is also known as bulking or mass-building. Bodybuilders gain muscle mass through exercising and eating a healthy diet, while also aiming to develop in specific areas as needed. They are preparing for future competitions and events by following a specialised diet based on their size and ambitions during this time. During the off-season, they, for example, eat significantly more protein, carbs, and good fats.
