The engine management light (EML) on a BMW is the same as it is on many other cars. When the engine management light illuminates on a dashboard, it indicates that the car’s computers have detected an issue with the engine.
If the EML light on a BMW comes on but there are no other signs of engine trouble, the driver does not need to pull over right away. The EML can reveal a wide range of issues, some of which are important and others which are minor. If at all possible, the motorist should have the EML reset by a trained BMW repair. The technician checks the problem codes while resetting the EML to see what caused it to go off. If the EML light comes on when the car is displaying other evident engine problems, the driver should pull over and address those issues immediately away.
