What Does a Triangle Inside a Circle Signify?

Alcoholics Anonymous’ Sobriety Circle and Triangle Symbol consists of a triangle within a circle.

The equilateral triangle represents unity, recovery, and service in response to the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of alcoholism’s disease. The surrounding circle represents completeness or unity and symbolises tranquilly and perfection.

The circle enclosing the triangle was viewed as a means of warding off evil spirits by priests and medicine men of several native cultures. Bill Wilson, co-founder of AA, chose the symbol to represent the power of the mind and body in repelling the evil spirits that lead to addiction.
