Is the Ankle Close to the Knee?

The ankle is distal to the knee, whereas the knee is proximal to it. The anatomical terms for placement are proximal and distal. Proximal refers to the distance between the structure’s origin and attachment sites, whereas distal refers to the distance between those locations.

Because it is closer to the place where the leg connects to the body’s trunk, the knee is proximal to the ankle. The elbow is also proximal to the wrist since it is closer to the place where the arm connects to the body’s trunk. Other anatomical location words include “dorsal,” which refers to the back of the body, and “ventral,” which refers to the front.
