How is an ignition switch wired?Locating the ignition switch, identifying its pins, disconnecting the negative battery cable, connecting the lead wire to the ACC terminal, the relay wire to the ST terminal, the ignition wire to the IGN terminal, and reconnecting the negative battery cable are the steps involved in wiring an ignition switch.

By disconnecting the cable, the terminals are exposed and the power lead wires can be connected to the switch’s terminal.

There are four terminals on the back of the ignition switch: Battery, Start, Ignition, and Accessory. Following is the procedure for wiring an ignition switch:

Disconnect the negative battery terminal first.

Prior to locating the positive power lead to the switch, the negative battery terminal must first be disconnected. Then, the correct terminal end is attached to the power lead wire and connected to the battery terminal.

Connect the accessory lead wire in Step 2.

Connecting the accessory lead wire to the accessory terminal using the correct wire terminal is the next step. When the ignition switch is in the ACC position, the accessory lead wire energises other vehicle accessories, such as the radio.

Connect the wire for the starter relay

The wire from the starter relay must be connected to the Start terminal on the ignition switch.

Connect the ignition wire in Step 4.

Connecting the ignition wire to the ignition terminal on the ignition switch is the final step. The IGN terminal powers the vehicle’s ignition, windshield wipers, accessories, and other functions. It is necessary to reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal.
