Identity thieves used FRG TeamFanShop as a proving ground for credit card data they had obtained. As of 2015, the website is no longer active.
To confirm that the card was valid, a $5 payment was usually billed and then instantly returned. If it was, the hackers proceeded to make transactions from legitimate businesses with the card. Occasionally, the hackers would start with a more expensive FRG TeamFanShop charge and work their way up. Victims of credit fraud might eventually lose hundreds of dollars as a result of the scam.
FRG TeamFanShop is sometimes linked to Fanatics.com. The two businesses, however, have nothing in common, with the former being a well-known retailer of legally licenced sportswear.
