Yelp is now in the Philippines.

But what exactly is Yelp? Yelp is an American multinational corporation headquartered in San Francisco, California. It develops, hosts, and markets Yelp.com and the Yelp mobile app, which publishes crowd-sourced reviews about local businesses and offers an online reservation service and a food delivery service.

As introduced in Yelp Official Blog, the Philippines is the 32nd international market to join the Yelp community. With Yelp, tourists who want to explore the Philippines or even locals who simply want to try new out places can just log on to Yelp.com.ph (make sure you download the free app first) and start exploring using a mobile phone.

“Filipinos are so well-connected online and offline that we know they will love using Yelp to find and connect with great local businesses.

“We will be working hard to make sure Yelp is the most useful and relevant local resource for every Pinoy,” Yelp Vice President of New Markets, Miriam Warren, said.

Yelp also provide reviews, prices, and locations, that can help you decide where to go, what to try, and what to expect. From restaurants, to shopping, to nightlife, and even health and medical, Yelp can help you find the right places in Manila, Tagaytay, etc. And what’s more, business owners (or managers) can even setup a free account to post photos and message customers.

On Friday, Disneyland banned the use of selfie sticks at their theme parks starting June 30 at Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland California, and on July 1 at Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland, reports ABS-CBN News.

Even before Disneyland banned these selfie sticks, most tourist attractions worldwide such as Palace of Versailles in Paris, Colosseum in Rome, Smithsonian Institution in Washington and major events like Wimbledon, Coachella, and Lollapalooza have already barred the use of the popular extendable rods, because of (1) safety issues, and (2) the rods may block views and cause inconvenience to others.

Kim Prunty, Disney spokeswoman, said: “We strive to provide a great experience for the entire family and, unfortunately, selfie sticks have become a growing safety concern for both our guests and cast (employees).”

Guests and visitors going to Disneyland with selfie sticks will be asked to leave  the monopods at storage counters, and pick them up upon leaving the park, or keep them in their cars or hotel rooms.

In a video posted by user Founder Eljan on YouTube, a creepy crawly identified as a “surot” (bed bug) could be seen moving across white/cream-colored bed sheets.

The video was short and only showed the bed, without showing the room features, but the customer alleged that this was taken in Tune Hotel Malate.

According to the video description, the customer had stayed at the hotel twice – with the first time going quite well, so they chose the hotel for their second stay. However, he was surprised to see his baby constantly scratching without apparent reason. After some searching, he realized bed bugs were living underneath the bed they were sleeping on in this hotel.

The customer said he did not expect to find bed bugs as the room actually looked impeccable. He complained about the alleged bed bug infestation to the hotel management and was told they will be transferred to another room. He was also allegedly told by housekeeping staff that the bed bugs probably came from previous customers who was checked in at the hotel for an extended stay.

It is understandable that the customer is complaining about the bed bugs as these pesky little creatures can be quite annoying; their bites, very itchy. We could only imagine the baby’s suffering after it was repeatedly bitten by the bed bug.

We hope the hotel’s management can find a way to deal with this problem so that future guests will have a better stay than what this family experienced.

NOTE: The DailyPedia is still waiting for the hotel management’s response on this issue.

The Skytrax World Airline Awards are coveted Quality accolades for the world airline industry. Travelers from across the globe take part each year in the world’s largest airline passenger satisfaction survey to decide the award winners. The World Airline Awards are a global benchmark of airline excellence, and widely known as the Passengers Choice Awards. (World Airline Awards 2015)

Aside from getting to your destination, traveling in comfort is one of the most important factors to consider in choosing the best airline. Any passenger would want to enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

Airline travel is one of the most popular ways to get to where we want to be, and with the horror stories we hear about delayed flights and indifferent crew, traveling by plane can also become stressful. The Skytrax World Airline Awards has finally revealed the ten best airlines in the world. These airlines are the most preferred by frequent travelers.

So, which airline made it to the top ten? And did our local airlines Philippine Airlines (PAL) and Cebu Pacific (CebPac) make it to the list?

Here’s the results of the top ten World Airlines Awards for 2015:

10. Qantas Airways

Parts of Boracay Island are covered in thick smoke after fire broke out at around 2:30 PM today, June 17, 2015 in D’talipapa Bukid in Station 2. Initial reports stated that the fire began in a boarding house and quickly spread to the nearby homes in this residential area; however, this has not been confirmed yet. The area is not near hotels or resorts.

Netizens on the island were quick to post photos of the fire even before reports surfaced whether the burning facility was a hotel, a restaurant, a shop, or a local residence. As of press time (6:00 PM), it is believed that around 100 homes have been affected by the fire which is still on going as firefighters are struggling because of the strong winds fanning the blaze.

Netizen Henrich Palmitos sent several photos to The DailyPedia, most of which showed thick smoke rising from what appears to be a heavily populated area.

Ann Rose Monterde and her mother visited an old cathedral called Simala Church in Cebu City, Philippines. The church is famous with people who want to pray for miracles and it is considered the home of the image of the miraculous Virgin where the “Monghe ni Maria” (Monks of Mary) lives.

According to Ann, only a few people were around when they visited the church so her mother asked Ann to take a photo of her in front of the Virgin Mary. After they got home, they reviewed their photos and discovered that they had an unexpected photobomber.

Just look at this:

In the photo of her mom in the church, a floating figure dressed like a nun with no face and no feet can be seen on the left side.

At the time she took the photo, Ann said there were no nuns present inside the church and that only janitors and a few visitors praying were around. Both mom and daughter remain clueless about who the mystery photobomber could be.

This rare footage shows the moment a 20-year old Beluga whale mom named Maris, successfully gave birth to a female calf after a 15-month pregnancy on Mother’s Day, May 10 at the Georgia Aquarium.

The calf’s tail can be seen protruding from its mother during the three-hour labor before it finally swims free on the aquarium tank. Moments after birth, Maris helped her little one rise to the surface to take a breath.

The new beluga baby weighted about 127 pound and started life just under five feet long.

According to WWF, at birth, beluga calves are usually dark gray or bluish/brownish-gray, and darken at one month. It can take one up to eight years to turn fully white, an adaptation to the endangered whale’s natural Arctic habitat.

“We couldn’t be happier, as Mother’s Day took on a new and special significance here at Georgia Aquarium!” the institution stated on its blog Monday.

Here’s the video: Beluga whale gives birth at Georgia Aquarium

Georgia Aquarium has cared for Maris since it opened in 2005. She is on breeding loan from the New York Aquarium, where she was born.

Have you ever had a miserable time while on vacation? What if you had to leave your family and go on a vacation alone? It would be sad to take selfies, take a bath in the pool, enjoy the comfort of your hotel room, and eat if you know you left behind your loved ones.

Take Kevin Blanford, the fortunate and unfortunate guy who won a vacation to Puerto Rico but had to leave his wife and baby for a cruise. Good thing his photos went viral after posting sad selfies. The viral photos reached the management of the hotel were he stayed and he was offered another trip, this time with his wife and beautiful baby.
